ProSol fits photovoltaic (PV) panels that heat a geyser straight off the sun, converts existing geysers to PV, and installs inverter and battery backup sized to what a house actually uses. Because we are plumbers as well, the geyser side of a PV job is done by the same team.

What a PV geyser is
A PV geyser heats water with electricity from its own solar panels instead of from the grid. The panels feed a dedicated controller and element in the geyser, so there is no water on the roof and nothing to freeze. It suits houses where a solar water heater’s pipework is awkward, and it can share panels with a backup system.
Inverter and battery backup
We size an inverter and battery off what you actually run during an outage, not the biggest system that fits the roof. Usually that means lights, fridge, Wi-Fi, television and the gate motor, with the geyser kept off the battery and heated by the sun. We fit monitoring so you can see what the system is doing.
Certification
Fixed electrical work on a PV system needs an electrical certificate of compliance under SANS 10142-1, separate from the plumbing certificate for the geyser. We tell you up front which certificates your installation will need.
Questions people ask
Is a PV geyser better than a solar water heater?
A solar water heater collects heat more efficiently per square metre of roof. A PV geyser has no water on the roof, no frost risk and simpler plumbing. On a good roof with space, a solar water heater usually wins; on a crowded or awkward roof, PV often does.
Can backup power run my geyser?
It can, but a geyser element drains a battery fast. We normally keep the geyser on solar heating and the battery for lights and appliances.
