Hot water for guest houses
A guest house uses hot water in peaks: every shower in the house between seven and nine in the morning. We size the storage and the heating for that peak, often with a heat pump or a solar system that keeps the elements off, so the last guest down to breakfast still had a hot shower.
Cold winters, and frost on the roof
Franschhoek sits in a mountain valley with snow on the surrounding peaks in winter, and colder sites can see frost. On those roofs we fit indirect solar systems, where the collector loop carries an antifreeze fluid, rather than systems that run drinking water through the collector.
Franschhoek by-law
Franschhoek falls under Stellenbosch Municipality. Its Water Services By-law (2017) requires a plumber to replace a fixed water heater, but has no requirement for a plumbing certificate of compliance when a property is sold. The sale agreement may still ask for one.
