Geyser repair and replacement in Stellenbosch and the Winelands
ProSol repairs and replaces electric geysers across Stellenbosch, Somerset West, Paarl and the rest of the Cape Winelands, and has done since 2013. A burst geyser is an emergency call-out at any hour; a tired one gets a straight answer on whether to repair it, replace it, or move it onto solar or a heat pump.

Signs your geyser needs attention
Most geysers give warning before they burst. Call us when you see any of these:
- Water dripping from the overflow pipe outside, or running from it constantly
- A drip tray with water standing in it, or a damp patch on the ceiling under the geyser
- No hot water, lukewarm water, or a breaker that trips when the geyser switches on
- Rusty or discoloured hot water, or a banging and rumbling while it heats
- A geyser older than about ten years that has never had its anode checked
Repair or replace?
Repair it when the cylinder itself is sound. A failed element, thermostat, pressure control valve or vacuum breaker is a part, and a part can be replaced.
Replace it when the cylinder is leaking. A leaking tank cannot be patched, and it will only get worse. When we replace a geyser we quote like for like first, then tell you honestly whether a solar geyser or heat pump would pay back on your household, so you can decide while the roof space is open anyway.
Installed to SANS 10254, which is what your insurer checks
Every geyser we fit is installed to SANS 10254, the national standard for fixed electric storage water heaters. After a burst, the insurer’s assessor checks the installation against that standard first, and a non-compliant install gives them grounds to reject the claim.
In practice that means the parts that are easy to leave out on a rushed job:
- A drip tray under the geyser and its valves, draining visibly to the outside
- A temperature and pressure (T&P) valve whose discharge pipe is metal, falls all the way, and ends where you can see it
- Vacuum breakers on both the hot and cold pipes
- A pressure control valve rated no higher than the geyser, with an isolating valve on its inlet
- Proper support on the roof beams, and insulation on the first metres of hot pipe
The electrical connection is certified separately, under SANS 10142-1.
The law in your area
In Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Klapmuts, the Stellenbosch Water Services By-law (2017) says only a plumber may replace a fixed water heater. In Somerset West, Strand, Gordon’s Bay, Kuils River and Brackenfell, the City of Cape Town Water By-law (2010) limits geyser replacement to accredited plumbers. Either way, a handyman swap is not legal and will not stand up to an insurance assessor.
Brands we fit and service
We install and service Kwikot, Heattech and Teckron geysers, and fit Geyserwise controllers so you can time the element and see the water temperature from the kitchen.

Questions people ask
What should I do when my geyser bursts?
Switch the geyser off at the distribution board, close the main stopcock or the isolating valve on the geyser’s cold supply, and call ProSol on 081 559 2180. We take burst-geyser call-outs 24 hours a day. Take photos before anything is moved: your insurer will want them.
Will my insurance pay for a burst geyser?
Most household policies cover a burst geyser, but the assessor checks that the installation complies with SANS 10254. We install to that standard and can issue a plumbing certificate of compliance for the work, which is what the insurer asks to see.
Can I replace my geyser with a solar geyser or heat pump instead?
Yes. A burst geyser is the cheapest moment to switch, because the roof space is already open. We can fit a solar geyser, retrofit solar onto a new geyser, or connect a heat pump to it.
Do you work on weekends?
Our office hours are Monday to Friday 07:30 to 16:30 and Saturday 08:00 to 15:00, and emergency call-outs run 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
